Energy codes are an important way
that states and municipalities can provide
consumers the assurance that at the time of
construction, residential buildings met minimum
standards of energy efficiency. This assurance
translates into direct immediate as well as
future energy cost controls -- and savings -- for the consumer.
Most states have adopted, or are
in the process of adopting, energy codes as part
of their evaluation of construction of new
residential buildings or additions. To
date, these codes include the Model Energy Code(MEC),
and International Energy Conservation Code
(IECC), or state equivalents. In these states,
all new residential buildings -- one and
two-family residential buildings and multifamily
three stories or less in height -- and all new
additions must demonstrate compliance in
accordance with these codes in order to
receive their building permits and/or be
approved upon inspection.
In order to
fulfill energy code compliance requirements,
many municipalities will accept REScheck
(previously known as MECcheck)
code compliance analysis. At MECexpress, we
perform MECchecks and RESchecks on buildings of
all shapes and sizes. Our analysis is fully in
line with national and state energy codes and
building standards. Upon completion of the
analysis, we will send you the compliance
certifications, inspection checklists and other
documentation you need to fulfill energy
compliance requirements of building departments
who accept MECcheck/REScheck.
As each local jurisdiction may or
may not have implemented energy codes (such
adoption is voluntary), they may or may not
require MECcheck/REScheck compliance analysis.
Please confirm with your local building official
that they require/will accept MECcheck/REScheck.
Commercial
or high-rise residential building design most
commonly must comply with codes based on the
ASHRAE/IES Energy Code for Commercial and
High-Rise Residential Buildings (ASHRAE). In addition, some states require
that commercial buildings be evaluated in
accordance with the IECC as well as several
state energy codes. Please contact us to obtain

by municipality and may not be current. Please contact your local
building code official to confirm if they will
accept MECcheck/REScheck/COMcheck to demonstrate
energy code compliance for your project. |
